Crew Thank You's
In 1975 KIALOA III set an elapsed time record in a downwind Sydney Hobart Race which we held for 21 years, and that the Cruising Yacht Club had a sponsor that first offered $100,000 to any yacht that could beat our record and then upped the bonus award to $300,000.

In the 1975-1976-1977 period,  KIALOA III was awarded Yachtings World Ocean Racing Championship, which appeared to be won before our outstanding 1977 year.

1977 was a fantastic year in which the following were overall victories. Four major international races in one year plus other smaller races.

The 1977 St. Petersburg-Ft. Lauderdale Race, SORC – 374 miles, first overall, new elapsed time record.

The 1977 Miami-Montego Bay Jamaica Race (the Caribbean) – 811 miles, first overall corrected time. (Dodging rocks and islands and also a Cuban patrol plane.)

The 1977 Los Angeles-Honolulu Race – 635 miles across Bass Straits in the Tasman Sea, a “Southerly Buster” about 70% of the race, heavy sailing to weather, 40+ wind velocity.
